REHEMA CRAFTS, MUSOMA, TANZANIA
At Louisa Judith we work in collaboration with those who share our values to promote the wellbeing of others. In line with this we have partnered with our friends at Rehema Crafts.
I have been travelling out to Tanzania since 2013 and have grown to know and love those who work at the Rehema craft project, in Musoma. Affiliated with the Anglican Church of Tanzania, it is made up of a local cafe and craft shop, and currently employ nineteen local women who produce beautiful, good quality, craft products for sale.
Having built connections with the women working there myself, the opportunity to work with their sewing community seemed too good to turn down. They are now working on making a series of products in the Isabella Button collection, to bring to your home. Sewing all their products lovingly by hand, and often over a cup of chai together they have formed a close knit community which brings support to many women in the area.
The seamstresses who make the crafts can develop their skills, earn a living wage, After these women’s salaries, any profits from the Rehema Project benefit local women and children in crisis. They might not have food, clothing, or shelter and are susceptible to all sorts of illnesses because of malnutrition. Many of them struggle with the effects of HIV or AIDS and sometimes suffer abuse, rape, theft and mistreatment; they are trapped in poverty, but through Rehema are offered love, practical support, and hope .
